Known to be the one who eliminates all the miseries, Shri Ganesha, the God of learning and the remover of obstacles, is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. He is considered as the God of auspicious beginnings and bestower of fortune in abundance. Shri Ganesha is also called Vinayak (proficient) or Vighneshwar (God to remove deterrants). He is the First worshiped God.

Shri Ganesha is one of the most easily recognizable Gods in the Hindu pantheon, known as the elephant-headed deity. He is usually praised with affection at the start of any Hindu ritual or ceremony and at the beginning of any writing.  His elephantine representation has deeper symbolic meaning as Ganesha's large size represents his metaphysical ability to remove obstacles in his devotees' lives. Widely worshiped among Hindus as the God of beginnings, Ganesha is honored as the patron of arts and sciences, intellect and wisdom

Shri Ganesha idols lend well to artistic expression and freedom. The results - there are so many Ganesha forms that we can see today. Right from Ganesha's for interior decoration to the Ganesha in temples there are different meanings and postures that have been experimented with.

This particular idol is one of the standing posture of Shri Ganesha which is supposedly a representation of rigidity and the correct attitude. This posture is known as 'Abhanga' which means no bent body. Here one can see that while Shri Ganesha is standing, His one leg rests firmly on the ground while the other is on his vahana (vehicle), the mouse.

It is believed that if one is placing Ganesha's idol at your workplace, one should place an idol of standing Ganesha. This supposedly brings energy and enthusiasm to work.
